A Childs Lesson of Prayer and Faith from his Mother

Tuesday, February 14th, 2012

The following is a true story from my good friend Rick.

“I’d like to share a story that illustrates the tender but powerful example of prayer and faith my Mother set for me at the age of 6.

We lived in a nice neighborhood in Long Beach California. I had been given a gift from my Dad it was one of those balsa wood airplanes with the propeller and rubber band.

When I came home from school I went out to the front porch opened the plastic wrapper and took out the fragile wood plane, I put on the propeller and attached the rubber band. I then walked out to the side walk, wound up the rubber band and then let her fly. The plane promptly flew up and straight into the top of our tree. I was devastated, no matter how hard I shook the tree the plane would not come down. I then ran into the house crying to my Mom and told her what had happened. She came out to see what could be done it soon became obvious to her that the plane was truly stuck and beyond reach.

Then came the miracle of Mothers and the simple faith of a 6-year old boy. She took me by the hand and we walked to the front porch.  She sat me on the steps and then helped me pray to my Heavenly Father to ask if he could help me. No sooner had we closed the prayer than a big gust of wind came and blew the plane out of the tree.

From that day on I have always known that there is a God and he knows my name. I have never forgotten that day and it has blessed me ever since.”

 “I Love you Mom.”
